Today is International Overdose Awareness Day. To honor such a devastating thing, people tie purple ribbons to their trees; I imagine the world covered in them. Because this is a disease that touches far more people than you realize…it is a nationally declared epidemic. In 2016, 42,249 people died from overdoses. That’s 116 a day. And every single one of those deaths is grieved by family members who did or did not see it coming. It is a death that robs us long before the last breath. So today, remember those who struggle with addiction, those seeking to love an addict through addiction, and the ones already lost. Narcan saves lives and can be accessed at your local behavioral health agency. If you are in need of resources and are in CT you can call 211.
